"Remember when you were little and would get into your mom's kitchen cabinets and use her canned goods as building blocks? Now, imagine kicking that up a notch or two.
That's the challenge issued by the American Institute of Architects Baton Rouge CANstruction Design & Build Competition to benefit the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank. This year, five teams took their inspiration from the theme "Rock-CAN-Roll." Awards, with the exception of the People's Choice, were handed out at a reception at The Louisiana Art & Science Museum Aug. 31. Taking part in the ceremony were AIA chapter Executive Director Kathleen Gordon and Food Bank CEO Mike Manning....
The team from LaBarre Associates, whose structure was on display at the Shaw Center for the Arts, took home the award for Best Meal by using 1,300-plus cans of beans, chili and white hominy to create "Rock'can Out!" Led by designer Travis Dickerson, the team included Rachel Brown, Angela Cannon, Phillip Kern, Logan LaBarre, Barry Lynch and Taylor Robert."
