Pointe of Isle Development - Buildout Spreads South
The 33-acre Pointe of Isle project on La. 22 will begin the beachhead of one existing business now under construction, Chris' Pharmacy, which will move in June from less than half a mile down the highway to expanded quarters. However, developers expect that is only the beginning of a $40 million venture that could change the landscape of southern Livingston Parish much the same way that Bass Pro Shops, Juban Crossing, Suma Crossing and the new Our Lady of the Lake medical complex are redefining the I-12 corridor.
Plans for Pointe of Isle are designed to include 28 custom-built lots to be occupied by a variety of local and franchise businesses. Once complete, the development would entail an estimated 245,000 square feet of retail and office space.

Livingston Parish Courthouse Conversion
Plans for the $150,000 renovation by the architectural firm of Labarre and Associates identify "juvenile court," a reflection of the fact that Judge Blair Edwards needed a courtroom to hear juvenile cases after she was elected in November 2008.
Negotiations for additional courtroom space outside the Courthouse began in 2007, around the time a Twenty-First judicial division for juvenile cases was created.
Now the Twenty-First Judicial District has nine judges (Divisions A-I) and only three small courtrooms and one large courtroom inside the Courthouse.
Acknowledging the crowding crisis in the Courthouse, and the new judgeship, the Legislature appropriated $1.6 million for the purchase and renovation of the First Baptist Church of Livingston, which occupies one acre on the east side of the Courthouse.
After three years of negotiations between the state, Parish Council and church members, the three structures comprising the church property were purchased July 1.
